Country Decorating:
Family coming over for a visit? Entertaining friends? Let them know how important they are to you by getting a gourmet fruit basket or
wine basket to add the final touch to your country decor theme. Everyone will enjoy the bountiful contents and you can re-purpose the basket afterwards. Place the fruit or wine basket in a centralized location and make sure your guests feel welcome to help themselves. You can also use it as the center piece of a buffet style arrangement. Fruit and wine baskets add elegance to your country decor and your guests will appreciate the thoughtfulness and style!
Americana country decor consists of shades of reds, whites and blues. These country decor accents can have stars and strips, or simple symbols and words like “Love, Faith, Hope…” to name a few. Americana quilts make excellent wall hangings, throws, table cloths, chair covers, the sky is the limit of what you can do with a beautiful Americana quilt. Decorative Americana boxes can be used to at charm to most spaces. Americana boxes not only look great, but you can also use them for storage. I like to tuck them into corners or along the walls. Americana plates also make great country decor accent pieces. They come in many sizes, colors and designs, but all will retain the same Americana theme. Adorable stuffed plush pieces also come in the Americana theme. These little guys look great just about anywhere you use them. I have used them on top of Americana boxes, coffee tables, mantles, shelves and just about anywhere that needs that extra detail. You can get Americana star garland that looks absolutely fantastic hung on the wall.
Barn stars are hands down the most popular decoration used with country decor themes. Barns stars come in all sizes and colors. They are typically metal (tin), sometimes rusty, sometimes painted, depending on the area you intend on decorating with them. I hang barn stars on walls and have used them in just about every type of room. Recently, I have decorated two bathrooms using larger sized barn stars. They really added a lot to the country theme. Don’t be afraid of using a larger sized barn star in a smaller area, you will be well pleased with the result. Most barn stars have hooks on the back and can be hung as easily as a picture frame. They do not weight very much, so you don’t necessarily need to be a handyman to put them up. Barn stars can be easily blended in with just about any primitive or country decor theme. If you happen to have a wall space that just needs a little something and you can’t put your finger on it, search no further, a barn star will make all the difference.
Baskets are another extremely popular country decorating accent piece. Baskets are about the most adaptable accent I can think of. I use them to hold flower arrangements, teddy bears, candles, quilts, just about anything you can think of. Country baskets lend themselves to creativity, which is the cornerstone of any successful country decor effort. I use tall baskets in sets of three or so to hold pip berry sprays, and hang on walls. Baskets can be placed on floor and used to store magazines, toys, etc… I use them heavily to control clutter while simultaneously adding a country touch. Smaller baskets work very well on walls, shelves, mantles and just about any flat surface to rest them upon. Personally, I like to start with a basket, and then add my own country touch to it by adding just a few little things to it. Let your creativity be your guide and you will end up with a unique county decor piece that fits in perfectly.
Country candles can be used to add beauty and warmth to virtually any space. Not to mention spreading a pleasant aroma throughout your home. There are a lot of candles out there to choose from. The country decor project I’m working on determines which type and how many I will make use of. I like to use larger country candles to accent table tops, shelves, desk tops, and in smaller out of the way areas. I use smaller candles to place inside baskets and wrap the base of the candle with pip berry garland. You can also create a nice country accent piece by starting with a candle and placing it on a small candle holder. I then wrap the base of the country candle with pip berry garland. Grubby country candles look great in a primitive bowl filled with potpourri and this decoration looks and smells absolutely fantastic.
Folk-art clocks are another great way to add a little something extra to a room. Although you can find wonderfully painted folk-art clocks that certainly readily lend themselves to any country decor theme, I also enjoy crafting my own. You can usually pickup an inexpensive circular wall clock at your local department store. Clocks are usually not very difficult to disassemble these days. A very quick way to get a clock to match the surroundings is to simply paint the outer wooden or plastic circular edge of the clock. I have painted many clocks which were already hanging on the wall and then put them back in the same spot (you get used to looking in the same spot, so if you move it, you will find yourself pointlessly eyeballing a blank wall every time you enter that room). If you have more time and ambition, you can remove the plastic transparent face plate and paint the actual number plate. These make the best folk-art clocks in my opinion, but it takes a bit more time.
Dish towels are a great way to bring a little warmth into your kitchen country decor. Use as dish towels or in your craft displays. I use dish towels like doilies on kitchen counters and islands and on dinning room tables or hutches. Country dishtowels make excellent silverware wraps. As for the not so obvious uses of dishtowels; often, you will find a perfect country pattern which you can use in a picture frame as the border of the picture. This works well with folk-art paintings. You can cut up a country dish towel to make beautiful country looking bows for wrapping around candles, teddy bears, etc… And of course you can use them as stuffing inside of country baskets, primitive bowls, on/inside boxes, etc… Often overlooked, the dish towel has an enormous amount of practical uses. I keep my country kitchen towel drawer full of country patterned dish towels because they not only come in handy in the kitchen, but also for so many country decor projects.
If you are looking for an easy way to make your holiday wreath, here's how:
First take the Cranberry & Twig Garland - 5 Foot and wrap it around a 24” German Twig Wreath - 24 inch.
If you would like to add more shine to your wreath, add a set of Silicone Light Strand.
